A Renter’s Weekend: Free & Low-Cost Local Activities

One of the best things about living in Baton Rouge is that you don’t need a massive entertainment budget to have a great time. The city is packed with "hidden gems" that are perfect for renters looking to explore.

Start your Saturday morning at the Red Stick Farmers Market downtown. Even if you don't buy much, the atmosphere, live music, and free samples make for a great morning. Afterward, head to the LSU Lakes for a 4-mile walk or run. It’s the city’s premier spot for people-watching and enjoying the outdoors.

For a bit of culture, take advantage of Free First Sundays, where many local museums, including the LASM (Louisiana Art & Science Museum) and the LSU Museum of Art, waive their admission fees. Finally, don't miss the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center. For a small entry fee, you can walk through cypress forests and see local wildlife, right in the middle of the city.
